Most organisations in the UK remain unprepared for the biggest data protection change in twenty years, which means a greater need for increased awareness. The team at Engage in Learning recently joined an event at Pure Gloucester to raise awareness of GDPR and how it will affect businesses.
Most businesses in the UK are still not ready for the introduction of GDPR, with less than 10% of organisations so far providing any staff awareness training to all employees and only 53% even planning to provide the training at all. Since this runs a very real risk of inviting profound consequences, organisers at Pure Gloucester sought to address the issue for their resident businesses by inviting them to a free-to-attend event. The aim was to ensure they were aware of the legislative change and to provide guidance on reducing their organisational risks.
The event, overseen by Pure Office’s Katrina Keen, saw resident commercial owners fill the Business Lounge where they were able to get involved in interactive presentations and informal discussion. Chris Price from Tayntons Solicitors discussed “What is GDPR?” and the “Do’s and Don’ts” of the new data protection regulations. This was followed by Nick Rowntree from System15, who provided an in-depth overview of what you should consider in your “Information Security Policy” and how to keep your data protected. Finally, Alexandra Wilson, Account Manager from Engage in Learning, provided an interactive demonstration of how to get compliant using eLearning as a staff training solution.
- Alexandra dispelled the myths about the financial implications of training large numbers of staff, and demonstrated that this is a cost-effective and time efficient method of rolling out compliance training to anywhere between five and 100,000+ learners.
- She also provided guidance on which level of training would be right for different staff members by demonstrating two versions of the training course; an awareness course for all staff, and a fully comprehensive version for those working directly with data.
- Many organisations are typically concerned that language barriers could also be an issue. However, Engage in Learning not only embed automatic transcript translation into all their courses, but they can be custom translated to provide the most accurate audio and transcript translations in any language.
“The event proved a positive success for those in attendance. Most reported that they had already attended GDPR events previously but found this one much easier to understand and came away feeling significantly less daunted by the change. Attendees also found the speakers really friendly and helpful”, said Katrina from Pure Offices.
Engage in Learning’s Digital Marketing Manager, James Morelli-Green, said “As a resident business, and as a provider of GDPR eLearning solutions for organisations, it was great to have the opportunity to be a part of such a benevolent event organised by Pure Offices. The need to ensure organisations are aware of the change, their responsibilities and how easy and cost-effective it is to meet their GDPR compliance needs is an issue that Engage in Learning has proactively addressed and can provide solutions for. To be able to share that with the other organisations of Pure Offices was a pleasure”.
